Our history started with the industrial home Elevator in Oslo in 1905.
Fretex is entirely owned by the Norwegian Salvation Army.
Vocational rehabilitation programs: Fretex is the largest vocational rehabilitation company in Norway, and the only one nationwide. Every year, more then 3000 people participates in our various vocational rehabilitation programs. Fretex is the first company of its kind in Norway that offers a job guarantee, relevant to each participants program during the qualification period.
Fretex is a member of AVRE, the Norwegian Association of Vocational and Rehabilitation Enterprises.
Second-hand stores: Fretex is the largest second-hand chain store in Norway. There is a total of 50 second-hand stores, 1 online store and 1 outlet store, operated by Fretex in Norway. Our stores had a turnover in 2016 at 193 million NOK.
Textile collection: Fretex is also the largest collector of used clothes and textiles in Norway, with over 2000 containers especially designed for this purpose. Fretex also have 12 facilities for receiving and handling all clothes and textiles in Norway. From 2014, Fretex in cooperation with the Norwegian Postal Service, allows you to deliver clothes and textiles in a specially designed bag that holds up to 8 Kg. This can be delivered at any of the 1400 postal offices in Norway, for a postal fee of 50 NOK. Fretex collects over 15000 tons of clothes and textiles every year. The clothes/textiles we can’t make use of in our second-hand stores or through the social work of The Salvation Army in Norway, is exported and re-used in other countries.
Fretex International oversees the export to other customers in Europe, Pakistan and Iraq, some of these will further export clothes and textiles to Asia and Africa. Some of the clothes and textiles that can not be re-used in its original form will be re-made into cloths or other products. To be able to close the loop, cloths are re-imported for sale to e.g. mechanical industries.
Confidential document and data destruction: Fretex is also one of the largest handlers for destruction of confidential documents in Norway. Our state of the art facilities in Oslo, Sandnes and Trondheim are secured in accordance with the requirements set by and NSM (The Norwegian National Security Authority) and NorSIS (Norwegian centre for information safety). All facilities handle destruction of both paper and digital devices, and all our machines for shredding are DIN 66399-certified. The paper shredding is of such a quality (cross-cut, security degree P3) that excludes reconstructing readable documents. The data shredding is of such a quality (cross-cut, security degree O-1, T-2, H-4 and E-2) that excludes reconstructing of any materiel. Implementation of the shredding process and transport is performed so that unauthorized personnel can not gain access to the customer’s information. Retrieval of documents happens in a closed car in a locked container that is delivered to a secured room for shredding. Doors are secured by automatic door looks, which can only be opened by authorized personnel with ID and access card. The facility is under 24 hours video surveillance, with a staffed security firm outside our opening hours. All personnel working at our facilities handling this type of work, is meticulously screened before employment, and a confidentiality agreement is signed by all working personel.
Fretex’ customer base contain among others: Judiciary system, Law enforcement, Lawyers offices, Child services, Doctors offices, Oil companies, Banks, Insurance companies, other waste management companies, and many more.
Fretex is located in most Norwegian counties, working close with government agencies, private sector, donors and customers.
